RIAA Reissues on Archive,org

RIAA albums of years past are now up for download courtesy of the great folks at Archive.org:

I'll probably add more. Free, but note the PayPal thingie up there, should you feel the nagging guilt to drop something in the ol' tip jar.

Do you know that you can actually visit the Archive? It's a real building and everything.

Celebrating a decade of "Dirt," one of RIAA's most popular albums is now available for sale at CDBaby as a download-only album:

RIAA "Dirt Bacharach" (2006)

Also via Amazon (hey, you can review it!)

Also now playing on Spotify.

Wonder if anyone has actually streamed/downloaded it...After all, it was:

- WFMU's Top Ten Albums of the Year

- #1 on John Sakamoto of the Toronto Star's "Anti-Hit List" who described it as "one of the year's most startling full-length mash-up projects."

New RIAA Song: "Under The Toy Bridge"

DJ Useo asked me to contribute to his latest collection of comedy/novelty mashups, and how could I resist when he looks at me with those big, puppy-dog eyes?  So I dusted off a track I started years ago, and finally finished it. It takes the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under The Bridge" instro, and mixes in numerous toy instrument sound effects, and a reading of the old chidren's story "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."

It's a two disk set. Useo sez: "Have fun listening, and also trying to guess who the dj's using these obviously fake names truly are...We'll let you know in about a week the actual dj names, which you'll easily recognize as some of the best on the scene." I'm "SoulWacker" doing "Under The Toy Bridge."

“Guess I’m Falling Into Bubbles”: The Video

“Guess I’m Falling Into Bubbles” was a RIAA mashup I made a few years ago that has beeen one of my more unexpected "hits." Who'd have thunk that mixing a U.S. Army Airborne marching cadence version of Don Ho’s Hawaiian lounge classic “Tiny Bubbles” with an instrumental version of The Velvet Underground’s “Guess I’m Falling in Love” + sound fx would prove to be so popular (at least in the rareified world of internet mashups)? It has popped up again, this time on Richard Metzger's "Dangerous Minds" blog, accompanied by a groovy psychedelic video by Marc Campbell. Thank you Mr Campbell, you did a great job on this one, love it.  But with gyrating '60s go-go dancers abounding, what's not to love?

The song can be downloaded HERE.

Oh, and I'm pretty psyched to find out that Campbell was the guy in the New Wave band The Nails.  I quite liked their classic tune "88 Lines About 44 Women" way back when.

RIAA Oldies On People Like Us' "Radio Boredcast"

"Radio Boredcast is a 744-hour online radio project, curated by Vicki Bennett (People Like Us) with AV Festival 12."

Vicki asked me if I would like to be one of the many who contributed mixes to this mammoth project, e.g.: Carl Stone, Chris & Cosey, Tim Maloney, Ergo Phizmiz, Matmos, Dave Soldier, Don Joyce of Negativland, David Toop, Jared Blum and GiganteSound, Felix Kubin, The Long Now Foundation (w/Brian Eno), DJ/rupture, and Lloyd Dunn of the Tape-Beatles. Alas, I had to turn her down (I'm still retired until I get my new studio set up), but she graciously included a few RIAA faves in her mixes.

Needless to say, it's a stupendous project, chock full of fantastic audio goodness.  You'll never say "There's nothing to listen to" again.

DO OR DIY WITH PEOPLE LIKE US: SPRING EQUINOX SHOW – INCREDIBLE SPRING BANDS - features RIAA's "It's Like That Summer Samba" (Run-DMC goes to Brasil)

PLU's "Collarge" is a 6-hour history of sound collage mix that she made to accompany the new book Creative License: The Law and Culture of Digital Sampling.

People Like Us: Collarge Part 1 - features RIAA's "Knowing When To Put Down The Guns" (Burt Bacharach goes hip-hop)

People Like Us: Collarge Part 3 - features RIAA's "Setting Sail" (Enya vs The Chemical Brothers)

(Thanks, Vicki!)

"Dirt Bacharach" Featured on 'The Hour of Crap'

I am proud to be featured on a show with a name like 'The Hour of Crap.' Especially when it's a special dedicated to odd Burt Bacharach interpretations. Yep, selections from the 2006 release by RIAA, "Dirt Bacharach," pops up amidst the zaniness. The show kicks off with 'Birds.' (Oh, and the rock band backing the 'Wives & Lovers' mashup is Ministry.)

BETTER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY DOCUMENTARIES THAT USE MY MUSIC

Episode 142 of the Chemical Heritage Foundation's podcast used my spooky theremin instrumental "Thereming," a tune that was originally included as part of Katya Oddio's 2006 v/a comp "Calling All Fiends." The show deals with "how intentional mutations of plants were interpreted in the 1950s...Then we look at how these scientific advances were interpreted through cinema in the same period, launching prolific characters like Godzilla." Awright! Science education and Godzilla? I am proud to be associated with this show. Check it here:
Episode 142: Midcentury Mutants

And to tie it all together, here's a vid I found on Youtube of a Godzilla theremin:
